ASF Announces 2017 Translation Prize Winners

The American-Scandinavian Foundation has announced the winners of its 38th annual Translation Competition for outstanding translations of poetry, fiction, drama or literary prose written by a Scandinavian author born after 1900. The winner of the Nadia Christensen Prize was Maija Liisa Mäkinen, for her translation of Pelon maantiede by Finnish author Anja Snellman.

In the Christmas Spirit with Strindberg

The name August Strindberg is not usually associated with children’s theater, but he did write plays for children, including his final Chamber Play. This month “The Black Glove,” a lyrical fantasy directed by Robert Greer in verse translation by Anne-Charlotte Hanes Harvey, is being staged by the August Strindberg Repertory Theatre.
