A Storm Blew in from Paradise

All the author Johannes Anyuru’s father P. wants to do as a young man is fly planes, but when he tries to return to Africa after being trained in Greece to fly for the Ugandan air force, he is detained and forced into a series of refugee camps. When he finally escapes, he struggles to improve his situation but finds new challenges wherever he goes, from Kenya to Sweden. A Storm Blew in from Paradise is both the story of Anyuru’s Ugandan father and the author himself. Anruyu was awarded Svenska Dagbladet’s Literature Prize and the Aftonbladet Literature Prize in 2012 for the Swedish original. The book has now been translated into English by Rachel Willson-Broyles and published by World Editions.
